چکیده

In this paper, the physico-chemical basics of the sectional multicomponent aerosol model SEMA are described. SEMA includes condensation and evaporation of sulphuric acid, nitric acid, hydrogen chloride, ammonia, and water vapour. The model can be applied to predictions of the chemical composition and size distribution of aqueous tropospheric secondary and marine aerosols. In SEMA, multicomponent thermodynamics and particle-size-dependent condensation and evaporation are efficiently coupled by application of a new sectional approach. ( 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. A prognostic physico-chemical model of secondary and marine inorganic multicomponent aerosols II. Model tests

The accuracy and efficiency of the sectional multicomponent aerosol model SEMA, described in the first part of this paper, are tested. Comparisons of results of an equilibrium version of SEMA with results of the equilibrium models SEQUILIB and AIM show good agreement for relative humidities above 60% and thus validate the thermodynamic portion of the model. Tests of the dynamic portion of SEMA ...

A Primal-dual Active-set Method and Algorithm for Chemical Equilibrium Problem Related to Modeling of Atmospheric Inorganic Aerosols

In this dissertation, we studied a general equilibrium model for multiphase multicomponent inorganic atmospheric aerosols. We developed the thermodynamic model to predict the phase transition and multistage growth phenomena of inorganic aerosols. The thermodynamic equilibrium is given by the minimum of the Gibbs Free Energy for a system involving an aqueous phase, a gas phase and solid salts. A...

Secondary inorganic aerosol simulations for Europe with special attention to nitrate

Nitrate is an important component of (secondary inorganic) fine aerosols in Europe. We present a model simulation for the year 1995 in which we account for the formation of secondary inorganic aerosols including ammonium sulphate and ammonium nitrate, a semi volatile component. For this purpose, the chemistry-transport model LOTOS was extended with a thermodynamic equilibrium module and additio...

A Primal-Dual Active-Set Algorithm for Chemical Equilibrium Problems Related to Modeling of Atmospheric Inorganic Aerosols

A general equilibrium model for multiphase multicomponent inorganic atmospheric aerosols is proposed. The thermodynamic equilibrium is given by the minimum of the Gibbs free energy for a system involving an aqueous phase, a gas phase and solid salts. A primal-dual algorithm solving the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions is detailed. An active set/Newton method permits to compute the minimum of energ...

Interactions between tropospheric chemistry and aerosols in a unified general circulation model

[1] A unified tropospheric chemistry-aerosol model has been developed within the Goddard Institute for Space Studies general circulation model (GCM). The model includes a detailed simulation of tropospheric ozone-NOx-hydrocarbon chemistry as well as aerosols and aerosol precursors. Predicted aerosol species include sulfate, nitrate, ammonium, black carbon, primary organic carbon, and secondary ...
